I heard some radio announcers today commenting on how most people love their time in the shower, not only for the obvious reason, but as a time to relax and reflect about things in private. It occurs to me that this is one of the benefits of an infrared sauna that is never mentioned. These are some major reasons for an infrared sauna:

Weight loss – this is one of the most popular reasons people choose to use an infrared sauna. By stimulating blood circulation which increases your metabolism, helps burn cellulite, the sauna can help speed up weight loss. It is said that 15 to 20 minutes in a sauna you can burn as much as 500 calories and is equal to about one to two hours of quick walking or one hour of exercise.

Detoxification – in the sauna you are obviously going to be sweating which cleanses the skin and sweat glands. The excessive sweating during your time in the sauna increases the capacity of detoxification of the skin by opening pores and impurities of body wash which are then removed by the sweat. This includes harmful chemicals, metals, and toxins such as sodium, nicotine, alcohol, and hydrocarbon residues.

Reducing cholesterol – there is not scientific proof of this but many believe that a sauna can lower your cholesterol levels.

Strengthens the immune system – the heat generated during a sauna helps your body to strengthen the immune system and resistance to deadly diseases.

Reduces tension – an infrared sauna helps in mentally and physically relieves the body of tension and stress. It is also effective in treating joint pain, muscle cramps and general body pains.

As in any situation the results for individuals may vary when using an infrared sauna. Remember to drink plenty of water before and after your sauna.
